Damrak: A photographic companion to the album is a photobook that takes the eponymous Fog Mountain x RE:VIVE compilation to a deeper level. Within the book you will find rare archival images curated by the artists themselves which provide context and visualization to the conceptual works. All the images inspired, relate to or in some case, composed the respective tracks on the compilation and tie the entire sonic narrative together. The images hint at original archival source material sampled lift the veil to show what hides beneath the music.
Unlike your typical Amsterdam photobook, Damrak doesn't stray from showing the darkness or mundane that occupy this notoriously vibrant city's past. The images are not what one expects when they picture Amsterdam and they serve as a testament to the realities that befall any metropolis, regardless of how it's conventionally displayed.
Whether or not you're a lover of photography, history or music, Damrak is a must have for any collection, taking album artwork to a new level of curation and scholarship. If you want to unlock the intricacies of the album this book is your go-to companion.
Design and layout for Damrak: A photographic companion to the album was done by Chicago based designer Andrew Caturano. The book is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license. All the images have been provided by the Nationaal Archief and the Rijksmuseum under a Creative Commons Attribution and Public Domain licenses, respectively.
